Re: 1978 R100RS Engine Noise
Even an engine that does does have pinging would never exhibit it when the bike is stationary on the stand. The engine has to be under substantial load. With no load the engine will rev right up with just a fraction of throttle and that won't produce sufficient compression in the cylinders to promot...

Re: E5/E10 Petrol
Are there different burn rates of the flame front with E5 vs E10? Or volatility of the fuel? Could something like that contribute to better running? Kurt I doubt there are significant burn rate or volatility differences for E5 and E10 but it might depend where you are located. In the UK E5 is 98 Ro...

Re: E5/E10 Petrol
I didn't notice any difference in running moving from E5 to E10 although it must have weakened the mixture by a few percent.
I'll find out what it's done to fuel hoses and O rings in the carbs at the next overhaul. I've already had the bowls off and seen nothing untoward.

Re: Bing 64/32/3 and 4 problems, springs?
I also ordered a couple of 13 11 1 338 134 springs as per Snowbum's article, they fit perfectly in the carbs and made the bike idle marvelously but it was absolutely impossible to rev the bike at all without it flooding and stalling. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm thinking maybe the springs ...

Re: Spark plug shorting method for carb sync with EME digital ignition system
Not knowing the details of your points booster, I can't really comment but, if it's essentially substituting a semiconductor switch for the points (no matter how triggered)... as you say, the energy dissipated in the igniton system is dependant on the coils rather than the switching method so your ...

Re: Spark plug shorting method for carb sync with EME digital ignition system
Hmmm..Your point seems a valid but.. Is a dead short worse than a totally fouled plug? Good point, a dead short is not worse than a fouled plug as an open circuit will cause the coil to generate it's highest possible HT voltage which stresses the coil insulation and may lead to damage on electronic...

Re: Spark plug shorting method for carb sync with EME digital ignition system
I would certainly not short the plug leads on electronic ignition although I've done it on points ignition including with my kit built ignition amplifier in place after noting that there are several blocking diodes in the electronic circuit to protect against a back emf and there is a condenser to a...

Re: Camshafts. R45 cam in a R90!? 😳
No I don't believe it will work at least not while maintaining the same cam timings. As you say type 248 R45 and R65 cams have the same basic timing as type 247 cams so the the standard 35hp R45 cam is a 308 and the 27hp R45 cam is a 284 and those 284's by the way are very rare outside of mainland E...

There may be some corrosion. I'd peel back the rubber and squirt in some WD-40 then let it soak.

Re: High number of views for newish posts
Thanks for that ME, I had not noticed. Maybe we will have to require a login to access all forums then. For a long time it's been that one can view the post '70 Airheads and other forums without having to login. But due to the denial of service problems we've been having, perhaps we will have to lo...
