Wiring loom help please

Post by 2valve »

Hi to all. Have recently purchased a main wiring loom part number 6111 1357457 ,it was listed to suit a R90 . The only difference i can see with this loom is that pin number 10 on the large plug that goes onto the back of instruments has NO female connector in place BUT the loom on the bike ATM HAS a female connector in place. Is this loom the correct one to suit a 4/1975. Always thought that the "main wiring loom's" where all the same R75/6 R90/6/S 1974 -1976. :?:

The '74 loom is different than the 1975-1976.

Pretty sure this is a "universal" loom and that pin 10 eventually would be connected to part of the circuit for the electronic tach if equipped.

Thanks Bamboo and Kurt. Heres me thinking that the only difference listed on the bikes above was the handle bar switch gear etc. There was a good wiring diagram posted on the forum somewhere, but not sure if its to suit my model ? Anyone have it ?

If you have a wire that wants that female connector, then remove one from the old loom and attach it. I know that they are fiddley, but it can usually be done.

Sometimes many years later the replacement loom may have different colors and even wire up things in a different way. this happened a lot on the /2 and a bit on the /5. I don't recall about the /6.

Did you really expect them to make it easy for you? Remember, this is a BMW and you are supposed to take it to the dealer who knows even less than you.

Hi Duane, I suppose i was to confident that it was the correct loom since it was off an R90. Fifty lashes across my back, OUCH!.

Ok, im back.Been in the shed checking out my spares. Pin number 10 on the black plug for the instruments via the two spare membrains /bulb socket circuit board's that i have doesnt connect via the long pins to the black plug at all. SO wonder what the difference is in the loom part numbers ?
