In a issue of BMW Motorcycle Magazine there was a comparison between the R1200RT and R100RT and these lights got a mentions. They fold away where the air intakes are in the faring. So you have no air intakes.

I had heard that there was a light accesory that replaced the vents, but I've never seen it before.

Yes.
The fold out light-housings for the RT fairing was a factory option,
the lights themselves are aftermarket, me thinks, but nice lamps just the same.

A few years back they were a hot accessory. If I had an RT, I'd probably run 'em.

Those are a terrific period accessory for the RTs and its getting hard to find a decent set.

I saw them years ago, on an RT that BMW had submitted for evaluation to the Toronto Police Dept. The lights were RED and there was a also a siren hidden behind the fairing. In terms of un-marked police vehicles, this is our worst nightmare.

I remember seeing them long ago. If I rode an RT, I'm not sure I could give up the vents.
