Well worth importing, I've never actually seen an R90S on the road here in Oz, thinking their nearly all locked
away permanently in Garages...what a waste IMO.... I bought mine to ride hard...gonna ride it like I stole it! 8-)
Brilliant Jeff.. one of the Best ! :D

Could I ask you to go into a bit of detail on the process and costs involved ? I occasionally go onto US Ebay and salivate, especially at the really, really reasonable prices! But not knowing the whys and wherefores I've been very slow to hit the button!

No problem Sibbo, It was my first time also, and took the plunge, probably would'nt have entertained the idea of
buying an S over here.
First,...I WILL recommend Schumacher Cargo Logistics, they have several Ship out points around the States, and
their been doing this for a long time, communication was first class, very prompt answers to questions.
NOTE: Make sure you buy a bike with a pre 1989 build date as Australia has a special scheme set up for importing pre '89
Vehicles... Depending on where the bike is located in the U.S. you'll incur freighting costs to the departure Port.
Actually shipping cost was just $500, + I took out Insurance costing $200. Schumachers have an Australian Agent who
oversee the arrival in Brisbane Port and then take the bike to their Storage facility ready for Quarantine & Customs
Inspection, you'll have to nominate them to do this, though you have to be there at this time to pick up once cleared.
The major cost seems to be the charges care of the Australian Government, Customs clearance fee, GST payable
on purchase price etc,
so it pays to have the seller Downwrite the purchase price for obvious reasons.
The biggest hassle up here was finding a NOTARY to fill out legal document giving power of Attorney to act on
your behalf, $70 there. All up it cost me close to $1800, though that includes $500 to freight bike from Monterey
to Long Beach CA. Feel free to ask me any specific questions on things I ain't mentioned Sibbo.

Excellent Jeff,

a mate and I often mumble about the venture! So $1800 was the whole cost ? That includes the actual in container freight US to Australia, landed Sydney?

That notary is some kind of JP, was that in the US or here ?

I've often thought of this too, most recently looking at a pristine 75/5. The $Oz has dropped off about 15% since then unfortunately. Though, compared to 7-8 years back, it's still pretty good today.

Yes, $1800 Grand total.... Long Beach CA. to Brisbane Port... $500 actual Port to Port Shipping cost, plus all other additional costs = $1800
I had to find a Notary here in Cairns. Schumacher emailed me the Power of Attorney document, I printed it out
and had the Notary fill it out & stamp his official Seal on it, then scanned & emailed it back.

I've been watching R75/5s moving steadily up in price since I bought mine in 2009....and the only ways up
for these babys, so in the long run...you can't lose IMO.....I reckon,..Procrastinate and you Miss the boat!

Spotless original red /6 actually, low kms. I missed the boat as it sold before I asked. Unsure of it's sale price but $4K had been mentioned. Too busy costing the deal transport before asking re price when it got sold. Oz$ was getting USD1.05 at the time. Ya snooze, ya lose!

Those Granada Red R75s are real tasty!.... just keep looking on Ebay and Save in your watch list anything that Interests you to see what their going for in different states of condition, thats what I did for quite awhile.
When I won the R90S, I just set my highest bid, and forgot about it, thinking I'd be outbid without a doubt!

Just Bikes has an ad for shipping from the US. I was taken for a ride when I shipped my 900 over here 28 years ago.
