My bike is a 94 Mystic. I removed the EZ pull system and the clutch works much better. Buttery smooth with no more drag and hard shifting. Before there was no free slack in the system with lever released, and still couldn't get smooth gear changes. Still a light pull without it. I think this mod has benefits for earlier models, but may not be the best for later models. Perhaps later models need the travel at the transmission arm that this thing cuts in half. Of the four airheads I've owned, the earliest model was an 81. They all had smooth clutches.

For late model bikes, I don't think they ever need them for your average guy, but women have smaller hands, which gives them a lot less leverage. And, sometimes people have hand injuries or arthritis and that system can be the difference between them being able to ride or not.

I installed one on my '74 R90s and it changed the whole feel of the bike. Made it seem a bit more modern I dare to say.
The one I installed uses a small backing plate that mounts to the bottom part of the tranny. On that plate is a long lever that attaches to the original throwout lever as well as the clutch cable. In this way, the clutch cable isn't cut or altered. It's lasted going on 13 years now with zero issues. Lever effort is reduced about 40% if I recall, when I tried to measure before and after pull with my fish scale. Even using the same clutch cable.

I cannot speak for the earlier models as all of my airheads have been post 81'. This mod I recommend against for these later bikes. They just don't need it. The hand lever to actuator arm ratio is correct on these later models. Remember, this mod cuts that in half. I had it adjusted for no free slack released, and still was not getting enough movement for smooth shifting. Going with a new BMW cable, and the stock setup, I now have the recommended free play, and smooth quite shifts. It is also conceivable that my clutch disk is not as flat as it should be. but it works well now.

JimmyG, Do you still have the information as to the make and seller of this model?

I purchased the bike used 94 R100 Mystic. The system was on the bike. It is exactly the unit in the picture above (EZ pull system). Apparently part of installation required cutting the cable end off. That is why I needed to replace the cable. It is a clever idea and I am not bashing it in any way. It just appears to me have little benefit later model airheads. These have a super light pull anyway...
