SteveD, was that a deep sump or a stock one? Was it a loose rock that holed it or were you dodging some of those bullets that hit ME109's fairing? Avoiding a direct hit: Good riding, guys!

Stock. Road rubbish hit it. A deep sump might just improve the chances of getting damage.
Nothing so powerful as anecdotal evidence, but maybe less significant overall.

Or put another way... it happened to me, it won't necessarily happen to y'all. But it might.

As far as the oil light flickering on hard braking - Garnet, did you have a pick-up extension on it? I think that would be a really good idea, and with the pickup close to the bottom, I don't see having this issue.
I used the extender that came with that pan. I seem to remeber that the inside of the pan was smooth. I think the Mac has some finning on the inside around the pick up. Perhaps this is a modifiaction to stop the oil sloshing about.
BTW I broke a fin off that pan going over a curb to avoid paying for parking.

It never leaked and I owned it for many years after.

That must have been one of the road hazards that ZM was talking about.

This is an Aussie campfire sump repair. Ken used JB weld.......the bloody slow curing one
And my spoon for a patch!
Well, I guess the spoon was my idea with a fair bit of insistence, but at least Ken straightened the spoon and brazed the handle back on for me.
Just as well I eats me porridge wiff me left hand 'cause he brazed it up bent!
