BEER!
Beer is a 'given'. Doesn't require thought. I hope you'll drop in, Garnet.

Gidday Fellas,

This is where I am at with the sale of my bike

This morning early I received a call from the GM of a large suburban BMW dealership in Melbourne who btw are only a car dealership now, he told me in detail that they are about to open early 2012 at the dealership a very modern BMW motorcycle dealership.
In this new "modern" showroom there will be a selection of early bmw bikes on display of all kinds going back thru the years and that they would like to buy my RS to include in their display as this GM loves the "greyghost" two tone colour scheme of the RS, they have offered me good money for the bike, I said they could have it "as is", they will call me on Monday to make final arrangements about collection...
He didn't want to wait for a good example of a "greyghost" RS to be traded by them, he wants the display to have a good impression from the get go...
So if you are ever passing this new bmw showroom and I cannot and will say where it is until it opens then please go in and say a little hello to "me ole girl", give her a pat on the tank and stroke her left upper faring, just behind the indicator, she loves that spot and let her know that I am going well and that she looks lovely sitting there all dolled up.

Do I feel a little sad? Yes and No, my interests do lie else where lately fellas as you all know, I need to and have to restore the old Chev for dad, yes i know that must sound crazy but it's a gut feel that burns inside of me constantly, and you always go with your gut feelings!! the old RS just does not fit into that picture that I see myself doing over the next good few years....
I hope that I can rock up in a car... WTF!! either be it my ute or the old Chev for a "gathering" with you blokes in the future, your friendship and honesty outside of this forum has been and is great, really nice actually so thanks for thank and my house and workshop are open to you all when you are passing through Trafalgar, the coffee's always hot and the beers always cold so please remember that.

I will not be leaving the forum as and I will be looking from time to time to have a quick chat and keep it touch.....

Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind ?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and old lang syne ?

CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we'll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

And surely you’ll buy your pint cup !
and surely I’ll buy mine !
And we'll take a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

CHORUS

We two have rode about the curves,
and picked the fastest line ;
But we’ve worn many a weary tyre,
since auld lang syne.

CHORUS

We two have ridden up the mountain,
from morning sun till dine† ;
But seas between us broad have roared
since auld lang syne.

CHORUS

And there’s a hand my trusty friend !
And give us a hand o’ thine !
And we’ll take a right good-will draught,
for auld lang syne.

Crikey, now that poor sweet bike is going to be stuffed and mounted, put on display like the corpse of that racehorse, Whatsisname. Rich people (I think they check your clothing labels when you go into BMW boutiques) will poke and prod her upholstery, their grubby fingers will smear her paintwork and their rich-bastard saliva will dribble on her fine, proud and still pert jugs.

Like a princess locked in a tower, they'll never let her out on the road again. She'll be lucky to have even a glimpse of a bit of tar. There will be the faint sound of traffic rumbling past but the only bikes she'll hear will be the occasional arse-hole infested fucking Harley with open pipes, sneering as it goes by in that special way they have. O woe.

Have I gone far enough? Yes I have. Sorry to hear it Grant. You will always be welcome no matter how many wheels you roll up on. I'm hoping to get down to your neck of the woods this summer, and am looking forward to a guided tour of the Chevy.

ps: Steve, that is a very tender reworking of the auld song. I might request a four-part harmony rendition of that at me funeral, with Staintune accompaniment, of course.

Well, I reckon it will just be a nice distinguished moment in the grey ghosts career.
Admired and pampered in a time capsule,
to re-emerge and be ridden again one day when its even more iconic!

Just like the /7 .... but without the cobwebs and wasp-nests.

Poor Brunhilde is tyreless, cobwebbed and a puddle is growing under her neutral switch. Any day now it will all change. I've kept her up to date with talk about the Birthday Bash, and she can see her new tyres out of the corner of her right indicator.

Well Grant, it sounds like a done deal, but I'm still wondering if there's a chance you could loan them the bike for display? That way they would take care of the storage and maintenance duties, and you could still take it for a ride or reclaim it at a later date.

Ah, good thinking. Here's another option, Grant -
BMW could give you a car - say, something sporty from the current range - as a 'courtesy' car to drive back and forth to Trafalgar between times when you want to ride the bike. I'd also push for a fuel card and some breath-takingly expensive, BMW logo'd sunglasses. Image is important.

ps: Tim, based on my experience, I wouldn't go letting BMW handle any maintenance stuff on an old Airhead. That's a frightening thought.
