84 R100 with the black rectangular air box. The aluminum sleeve that connects the airbox rubber tubes to the rubber intake tubes to the carbs. I had to take them apart, so on re-installation, after cleaning, is a sealer (silicone perhaps, grease?) required to make a good seal?

I've never done it. They're a good fit. They tend to get a bit slimey with fuel vapour after a while.
Fitting the carbs with the curved air tubes applies enough pressure on the fit to keep them well in place. The clamps must be adequately tightened of course and ime the ones at the carbs won't drip anything if the tightener is at the top of the tube, not underneath.

Thanx Steve. I wasn't sure because there was some black crap on them that I thought might be a sealant. Everything cleaned up nice. Previous owner took good care to anti seize everything. Oh yea that's me LOL!
