Does anyone recognize this bushing?

I was putting my front end back together after replacing the steering bearings. Fitting the throttle assembly back onto the handlebars and this thing seemed to fly out of the area. I don't recognize it and I didn't take any of the cables out off the handlebars.

Any help appreciated. I am not even sure it came off of the bike, but I think so.

Thanks

Dave

Is there a bushing in there? The bike is a 75/6 and the cluster is off and sitting on a shelf.

What is it made of? Is it heavy, like lead? If it's lead, do you suppose it has to do with masking bar vibrations, something like a "bar snake"? I've never heard of round bushings like this, though.

Go to diagram 31_0302 Front Suspension.

The bushing is #6 on this diagram. It goes inside the rubber isolation bushing in the instrument mounting bracket. There are 2, one on the right and one on the left.

Wouldn't the bushing in question need to have a circumferential groove to fit into the mounting bracket? Mine does on my /7. It's about the right size, but doesn't seem to have the right shape.

BTW...I never did see what model/year bike this was.

If you've removed the cluster, it probably did fall out of the mount, near the top plate, during your reinstallation of the perch.

The bush in the picture looks to have a much thicker wall than the ones in the instrument mounts........unless it's not original.
Aren't those bushes only about 5/16" anywayz?
