or do you (also) , when pushing a shopping cart in a supermarket, and before turning a corner, look down (to where your mirrors should be) to make sure no one is on your blind spot.

I do it on my bicycle ALL the time.
I need to get one of those bicycle helmet mirrors . . . so I can look up to my right when I'm on my motorcycle. Then I can be looking at the wrong place on both vehicles.

Just close your eyes and turn, like my young niece a few years ago --while she was driving her car at night, to avoid hitting a rabbit on the road, she closed her eyes, swerved right into the ditch then through a fence. The rabbit and niece were ok.

When I'm shopping in a hurry and coming up to a hairpin, I grab the trolley about a third back from the front, on which ever side I'm turning, and drag a knee 'round into the next aisle.
I once low sided on some dropped eggs so nowadays I take it easy through the fresh produce aisles. Besides, there is often really fresh produce to check out.
