Brown side stand

Want to mount Brown side stand onto 78 R100/7...stand came from 83 R80RT donor bike....
But....rear engine stud is not long enough on the 78 due to left foot peg also uses this space...so...plan is to make longer engine mount stand from threaded ready rod 3/8" or1/2" have in the junk drawer. Current engine mount rod is 12mm so could either grind down the 1/2" to fit or just use 3.8" which is a little undersized. Easier with the 3/8" so anybody see any problem with using 3/8" for mounting stud?
Just to save some work or anybody got any other ideas?

I don't think the ready rod is of very high grade??
I would be more inclined to buy some appropriately graded 12mm bar and thread it yourself with a die nut.
Cheap enough to do.

I'd be tempted to weld a new foot peg to the Brown, and keep the stock mounts.

Well Moosehead, so far we have temptations and inclinations. Progress.

Yeah, I would stay away from using threaded rod for that stress point, they are pretty soft. Are there any motorcycle salvage yards in your neck of the woods. You may consider using the engine mounting bolts from a Japanese 4 banger bike, the ones on my Connie are pretty long.

Using a hardened metric bolt (or even SAE) of the correct size to fabricate the part would also be far superior to the relatively soft steel of the all-thread.

Shaw stainless in England make Stainless steel engine bolts, and would probably make a longer one for you if you asked.
But I was able to use the stock bolt when I fitted a Browns to my 77 R75/7.
Getting the Micky Mouse bracket which fits round the exhaust pipe across to the RHS two in one was a bit harder

I would post the length needed and ask for it. I know that my box of old motor mount bolts must have at least a couple dozen in it of a variety of lengths. I would send one out to anyone needing one.

I have a brown side stand but it is silver. I'm already color blind to a fairly advanced degree. The added confusion just doesn't help!
However, my stud is long enough and my nuts are on tight.

Nuthin' worse than a small stud and loose nuts.
