Swing arm bearing seals

I bought new swing arm bearings and seals for the recently powdercoated swing arm for my Cafe' Racer (1982 R100S).
With the bearings in place, the depth of the recess left over for the seals would accommodate plastic seals such as the ones that came out of it originally. The seals I was sold are metal "cups" where they interface the swing arm recess. The seal sticks out for about half its width. When I put the bushing in - the one that rides against the bearing, it still sticks out proud of the seal so it looks like it would still fit just fine. The metal seal housing (inverted cup) will be closer to the inside of the frame than would be a thinner plastic seal.
To put it another way, and the dimensions are a guess, once the bearings are all the way pressed in, the recess for the seal is about 4mm. When the metal seal housing is pressed in to bottom out on the installed seal, there is still about 4mm sticking out from the swingarm. The seal seems to be very secure.
My question is - anybody here know if there a safety or reliability issue here?
