Mounting new Krauser mounts on R100

I just got a new set of the Krauser classic bags and mounts for my '81 R100RS, and I'm trying to figure out exactly how the mounts bolt to the bike. I can see the lower front bolt appears to attach to the hole behind the footpegs, and the upper front bolt looks to attach to one of the holes next to the upper shock mount, but it's not clear how the rear arm is supposed to attach to the frame under the rear of the seat. The rear arm from each mount looks to meet at the fitting welded onto the frame, but the mounts didn't come with any hardware for that. Can someone post some good pics of how they attach at the upper rear, and give me a lead on what hardware I need to find if I'm missing something. Here are some pics:

Use a 6 x 45mm hex bolt with nut thru the fitting under the seat as shown in your top photo.

But otherwise, everything is lining up OK?

On my top forward mounts, mine used the shock bolts.

Sorry I can't help Joseph, my RS has different krauser mounts to yours.

Maybe you wanna show these lads that bike of yours. It is a stunner!

I've got one of the mounts on the bike, and the upper front does bolt to the upper shock mount. On the right side there's also a hole in the mount and the frame for a second bolt behind the shock mount. I don't know if it's necessary, but I'm going to use that one as well. I'm trying to do this alone, and when I got to the left side I just can't get the shock bolt to line up and I'm going to wait until I have another set of hands to help me.

The upper rear arm still doesn't even come close to the hole in the frame tab. With the bracket mounted at the two front holes and perfectly straight, the rear mount in the bracket is a good 1.75 inches from the frame tab. If I bend it in, I can get it maybe just under an inch away from the tab, but not nearly close enough for the 45mm bolt (which I did find) to work. I picked up a 6 x 60mm hex bolt, and that's not even close. I'm pretty sure these are the right mounts, because the fronts line up perfectly, but it's like the rear arms are just too short.

Any suggestions? Should I just try to find a longer bolt, maybe 80mm?

Here are a few pics:

This is the rear, if I pull it in toward the middle I can get it about half as far from the frame tab, but at a point the bracket hits the frame itself and won't go any further.Image

Here are a few pics of it before I installed the stainless Keihin exhaust. I think the exhaust was a huge improvement in the looks, and it sounds much more like it should that the MAC system you see in the pics. I've got a 3/4 seat that I just need to get painted, and hope to have that on the bike in a couple of weeks. I took a quick 80 mile ride this morning and noticed more noise from the right cylinder, and it sounded more like a rocker arm than valves. I haven't checked the valves since I got it, so that's on the list. I've never adjusted rocker arms, so I may have a pro take care of the valves and/or rocker arms.

Your problem is that the upper front carrier mount attaches to the back side of the shock mount, not to the outside of the subframe and shock mount as you have it. Put the front mount up under the subframe, put the front mount flush against the back side of the subframe, and the shock bolt will go right through it. The whole baggage mount will be close enough to get the upper rear mount attached to the rear frame fitting. I don't know what the other holes in the subframe are for, but I wouldn't sweat putting a second bolt through it into the upper front mount; mine have been on for 31 years just attached to the back side of the shock mount.

Okay, I had given that some thought but it didn't appear that it would change the position of the rear mount significantly, but I'm going to try it.

I take it the lower mount is fine where it is? It doesn't appear that it can go behind that hole because of the taper of the rear edge.

Yes, the lower mount that attaches to the passenger footpeg flange will be fine, though you may have to detach it temporarily in order to snake the upper mount up behind the subframe. The bag frame should fit like a charm!
