Any tips on replacement mufflers for my 1971 SWB exhausts? I assume the SWB mufflers are shorter than LWB? Of course I'd like to save a buck. Just need mufflers. Thanks.

BMW OEM lists only two part numbers for /5 mufflers, a left and a right. $400 per side. Your EMGO search info was wrong.

The EMGO cigar mufflers Amazon sells are for SWB and around $160/set with free shipping. Chrome on them is not that great, though...

The frames are the same size on a SWB and LWB bike. This means means the engine placement and exhaust mounting points are the same on both bikes.
So, any exhaust for a LWB will fit a SWB.
Only the sub frame and swingarm are different sizes so it is a matter of perhaps finding exhaust pipes a few inches shorter so they don't stick out so far on a SWB bike. But really... when does a few inches matter??

Saving a buck huh! Well there's those cheap cigar style mentioned above. Buy two sets, they'll last twice as long. ;) They'll maintain ""the look" and sound.

Then there's peashooter types, tulip types, etc that don't maintain the look or sound but are cheaper and can be made to work.

I presume
I'd like to save a buck
means stainless is out of the question?

Ebay may provide used SS cheaper. Provided you have the patience to wait and watch and you find something undamaged it may be a better long term option and they'll polish up as new.

Thanks Steve. $168 to my door. That's going to have to do. I will take your advice and keep an eye out for SS though.
