I have been buying filters for my 1975 and 1979 airheads for 10 years now and have never had any confusion before. I know the hinged, unhinged thing and have used both kinds.

On my last order from Max BMW I got a couple new filters that I am just getting around to using. They look right, but are too long! When or for what did BMW change to a longer filter. I plan to whine to Max, and I need to know what to say.

I think you got filters that were for the oil cooler models.
