front brake pads

The inside front brake pads on my 92 R100RT are worn near the limit. The outside pads are hardly worn at all. What causes this? Is it stupid to replace only the inner pads? Thanks.

I don't own an Airhead newer than 1983 so I'm unfamiliar with these newer Airheads. As such, are there pistons on the inside of your brake calipers? Might that explain the wear patterns?

When you change the pads, check to see that the pistons are free on the outside pucks. Use a C clamp as you do when installing new pads. The outer pistons may be stuck. If they are free, bleed out old fluid and replace with new when you replace pads. If you bought the bike used, maybe someone replaced only outside?

26 year old calipers...could be pistons stuck, could be a damaged wiper ring blocking something...
Grant and me took his Brembo's apart last year and every wiper seal had split. Replacing those with even the intact used ones we had helped enormously.

I wouldn't be afraid to remove, dismantle, inspect, clean ,replace bits and even add ss lines if you haven't already. It really isn't hard to do.
You'll be surprised how much sludge might be in there and at the very least cleaning everything and gently polishing the pistons will be good maintenance.
