BMW R80 rear drum re-line

Hi

i just realized that the diameter of my rear drum is beyond limits 222mm already. I was wondering if any of you know an specialized shop in US where to send the wheel (Y type) so they can cut it down, make an sleeve and put it back. A new wheel cost a fortune, around $600 and most of what I see on ebay is already in the limit.

Thank you in advance

Best regards

Those types of services are offered, here is a vendor that may help you. I figure the hub would have to be send only, worth a call or correspondence to see if they do motorcycle hubs.

Woody's Wheel Works??

Probably going to need to respoke or align the spokes as this process will likely create some distortion in the hub.

It's a cast Y-type wheel (a monoshock '85-'87 R80, I guess), Kurt. I don't know whether that sort of drum replacement/re-lining service is available.

Hi all

Just FYI non of the companies recommended reline BMW motorbike drum so I guess I´ll have to go to a machine shop and get it done there.

Thanks you again.

I'd be pleasantly surprised if that one-off service turns out to be less expensive than a new rear wheel.

I am thinking the same about the price to repair. It would take a pretty big lathe with a large swing to handle the OD of that wheel, plus all the fabrication of the insert. $$$
We were talking about replacement cast wheels a number of months ago and this source was recommended. http://www.austinmotorscene.com/martind ... ead-mecca/

May be worth a call to see if they have a good used replacement.
