Thanks and ride safe
Well after 3 and a bit years fixing up my R80/7 and only getting 260 miles on it I have sold it, first time in my life since I was 15 that i don't own a motorcycle. After 58 years riding and so many bikes the time has come for me to call it quits and it is far earlier than I expected but my health c...

Re: Break-in oil
I use Brad Penn 30W break-in oil with new rings or with something that sat for a while (like 30 years!). It stays in the motor for the first tank of gas or so, 200ish miles. Break-in riding is mostly accelerating and decelerating in gear, up and down, from 2K rpm to about 6K rpm. This has worked we...

Re: Neutral Light stays on when clutch pulled in
My apologies, I think I may have misread the original post. The way I read it, the neutral lamp was working exactly opposite to the way it should be. Re-reading, I don't think this is the case... so The correct function of the neutral lamp is that it should be on when the gearbox is in neutral and ...

I got so fed up with Google AI I have managed to turn it off in Google Chrome, it's a worry when you are trying to find real true information.

Re: ‘86 R80RT Rear Shock
Might help? The eye mount on the top of your shock is screwed onto the chrome spindle of your schock. Compress the spring and you will be able to slide the tube thats against the eye mount down. Now you can clamp the spindle with a spindle clamp to unscrew the top eye mount. You need to heat it so ...

Re: Pieces of something in my oil sump. 1985 BMW R80RT
I was hearing a clicking noise from one of my engine heads, so, at the suggestion of my friend, who has much more experience with BMW bikes, we took off the oil sump to see if there was a potential clog. Upon taking it off, there was a lot of blue goo that the previous owner had used to secure the ...

Agreed looks like the bottom of a cylinder, I hate it when people put so much gasket goo on joints, if it's blue it could well be Hylomar.

Re: Cly head re trnsioning
Thank you gentlemen for your expert advise. have done less than 120 miles on it since the rebuild so I will do a bit more before re tensioning the heads and adjusting the valve clearances. As for my torque wrench it's spot on as we have calibration equipment at the Polytechnic where I work. Would ha...
