Differences in Airhead speedometer housings

Post by crowtalks »

I was looking for an instrument housing to replace the one I have on my 74 R60/6.

It's an earlier year build (5-74) and has the older switchgear which may have no bearing on the subject.

I have discovered looking about that all the clusters I see have the turn indicator on the top and either brake fail or bright lights on the bottom, while mine has the brake fail on the top and turn indicator on the bottom.

When did they go away from the turn indicator on the bottom of the cluster?

I offered some thoughts on the other Vintage forum. I'm wondering if the change was for the 1978 models with the electronic tach.

I suppose the dates can be a bit fuzzy. My 9/77 build R100/7 has the turn signal at the top.

FWIW, My '76 R60/6 has the Brake Failure lamp at the top. Suggestion is that it moved with the change to the /7 but there could well have been a bleed over datewise...

Siebenrock make reproduction of the instrument housings, and they make one with the same light configuration as yours

Euro Motoelectrics resells them, but they are currently out of stock with your model

I didn't think to look at these folks...I looked here for a replacement harness before I got one from Katdash two or three years ago. I think I'll get a replacement housing here.

My 1978 R80/7 has indicators at the top and Brake Fail at the bottom, I also have the electronic rev counter.
