Howdy all,
We moved in the spring to a "new to us) house. After discovering a lot of things that needed attention with the house, I am finally getting to a point to concentrate on my bike. It has an open stator and does not charge, so I am fixin' to order an Enduralast 450 watt system like I installed on my last 1988 RS. I REALLY liked that system, and it sure was nice being able to "charge" through town and at idle. Anyway, sorry for my absense, but life has gotten in my way. I am surely looking forward to being back in the wind in the near future. Hopefully everyone had a wonderful Christmas!!!

Is this the "Rebel Charge" of legend and lore?

Re: Fixin' to.....
Actually YES it is. I purchased the parts over the internet and they wouldn't accept cash, so I gave them a "Rebel Charge". They didn't even Yankee me around!!
Anyway, I was needing some parts, so I ordered some new fuel petcocks for both sides of the bike with the filter screens, swingarm caps, alternator shaft seal, enduralast 450 watt alternator kit with the rotor removal bolt. This should be enough to keep me busy for a little while. As I recall from my last boxer, the alternator job wasn't bad at all. Very straightforward. I will be glad to get her on the road once again!! She has 120,000 miles now and hopefully after the electrical upgrade will be ready for many more miles!!

Re: Fixin' to.....
I haven't had much time to devote to this yet, but I was able to work on it some this past Monday and have removed the old stator, wiring, diode board, regulator, and rotor. I have installed the new Enduralast stator & rotor, and new shaft seal. Hopefully this weekend will allow me some time to get the wiring completed, and the new fuel petcocks installed into the tank. I'll be glad to get her back together.

New system is installed and working properly. No more flickering generator light at idle!! Now, I need to order some warm weather. Single digits seem to freeze MY digits.

Since my stock alternator runs my Moose heated grips, I bet yours would cook your hands if you wired it correctly.Rebel wrote:New system is installed and working properly. No more flickering generator light at idle!! Now, I need to order some warm weather. Single digits seem to freeze MY digits.

Hell, you can run full electric clothing now. Temperature should mean nothing to you anymore!enigmaT120 wrote:Since my stock alternator runs my Moose heated grips, I bet yours would cook your hands if you wired it correctly.Rebel wrote:New system is installed and working properly. Re: Enduralast Alternator upgrade.......
Time will tell I guess. I installed heated grips on my last 88 RS, and they worked fine. I still have a lot of things to go through with this bike. I have only put 3,000 miles on it since I got it and was let down by the charging system. I have noticed a noise in the transmission in 4th that I am trying to sort out. Little by little I will get it done as time and money allow. It's amazing how "sterile" so many of the new bikes are today, they work perfectly, but have no soul. I guess that's what keeps bringing me back to old twins!!
