It is very important to use NO-OX on all of the connections. It is simple pure grease and will keep the air out of the connection. Air means humidity and that means oxidation and that is rust. Just about every connection on the bike needs to be thusly protected. Or, you will be back here again in a few years.

Yeah, any dielectric grease will do the job. I use the silicone dielectric grease that electronics stores sell, as it is a lot less ugly (it's clear), but NO-OX is available at any of the Home Depot type big home building stores. They carry it over with their electrical supply stuff (it's required on aluminum wire connections).

Don't get the idea that you must have some special product. In an emergency, I would use Vasoline, or any grease available, as it would be better than nothing. No to butter.

Hmmmm, I'm torn. On the one hand, I think I agree with Duane. On the other hand, I just can't quite imagine what a connector greasing emergency might be....

MS, I am glad that you never had a connector greasing emergency while out on the road. Maybe a person would have to do some electrical fix away from the main shop and tools. One might just put it together and think, "I will grease it up when I get home." We know how that works out............. to never happen.

You are prescient, I do carry NO-OX in my tool box in the Camry. OR, am I that predictable?

That was the beauty of the intentional ambiguity in my remark: all bases were covered.
