Pushrod tubes

Post by dickytee »

I have purchased a set of stainless steel pushrod tubes and had the barrels media blasted. Is it a good idea to use a sealant when replacing them in the barrels? I'm thinking hylomar. R100rs 1981 model.

They are interference fit...no need for sealant. Getting them in at the right depth is a delicate requirement. If they are in too far, you won't get the push on the seals; too far out and they will split the seals when the jugs are bolted into place.

And that right depth is? I'm sure the occasional leaks from my pushrod seals are due to that problem, especially as I know at least one has been loose.

Loctite makes a product for applications like that, not so much to seal the gap but to prevent further motion after they are installed.

Hmmm, but would that make it impossible to then move the seals further in later?

Cheers. Thanks for replies.
I believe the correct depth is so that the shoulder on the seal end is flush with the bottom mating surface of the barrel.
