Drive shaft lub quantity?

Post by Sibbo »

Can someone tell me how much oil goes into my R80 ST drive shaft tube ? The Haynes manual doesn't tell me ... I know it's a piece of crap.

I seem to remember 150ml ?

Duane has often said that you can get by with even less, probably as little as 50cc. But certainly anything in the 100cc range would be more than enough. Less volume taken up by the fluid means less of a chance to over pressurize the inside of the tube.

150 is the spec but I never use more than 120 on the grounds that you never get all the old oil out and If I put in too much it ends up migrating to the final drive.
