Clutch Pulley System

Hi Guys, anyone out there using the little chain pulley system on the clutch cable? My bike came with it, and it seems like it is unnecessary for this bike. Clutch pull is very light but What you get only half the travel at the transmission arm than what you would normally have with the stock set up. I believe you are forced to adjust the clutch so it pre-loads the throw out bearing (cant be good) to get enough throw. Any thoughts?

I am not familiar with that item but anything that requires the throw out bearing to spin constantly is not good!

I don't think our bikes (post '81 anyway) need anything like that, the clutch is easy to pull.

Of course I say that after years of riding my Triumph, who's clutch lever is very hard to pull. My left forearm is larger than my right.

my bikes are 75 and 79 and i have an EZ clutch on both of them. Your cable will last forever and the pull is much easier. At least on my bikes, there is still plenty of throw to get full clutch disengagement. I see it as a huge improvement.

Lots of owners say the clutch pulley system works well. It seems obvious that adjustment is going to be more critical though so maybe that's what's needed to get it working without pre-loading the release bearing. It's going to mean some free play at the handlebar lever but not too much. I'd aim for no more than 2mm.

Just in case somebody doesn't know it the EZ Clutch system is a simple pulley arrangement whereby a full pull on the clutch lever results in half the movement of the pushrod that disengages the clutch. That means that the clutch is sweet to pull but getting the clutch adjustment right is twice as demanding.

Personally I haven't minded the pull of the 'early' (pre '81 is it?) clutch system, and I'm an old fart no longer in my prime.

Thanks all! I guess I will try getting a stock cable and seeing if it works better. I remember my 95 R100R to have a very light pull anyway. Don't really know why this was added...The clutch has an almost effortless pull now, with no feel to it at all. I guess I'm not used to that.

I think the EZ pull system is designed to work with a stock clutch cable. Just looped through the pulley and anchored to a tag.

Since you didn't tell us what you ride, it is hard to comment. On some of the bikes in the 70s it was rather nice to have.

It seems I remember a (BMW?) HD clutch spring (sidecar use?) that made it a nice thing to have.
