Hey Guys
How's everyone a-doin???
Well, time for a ride again so I'm getting the old gal ready for the Tail Of The Dragon in June. I finally rebuild the master cylinder under the tank that has been leaking for over 20 years and actually replaced the stock brake lines. (like some of you told me to do at one of the rally's at Ken's) Putting on a new tire as well and after removing the back wheel I see the shoes are covered in oil, (kinda explains why the back brakes suck) The rear end is full so wondering where this oil came from????? New shoes on order but can't for the life of me rem how the old ones come off. I did replace the shoes, probably 25 years ago.
Thanks
Kelly VB

Re: Ya, I'm Still Here
If you are getting oil transfer from the swingarm to the rear drive, the level can appear full, but still be leaking regardless. Welcome back!

Take a look at the final drive with the wheel off and you will see where the oil is leaking from.
Ask the Indians what happens when you don't control immigration.
Re: Ya, I'm Still Here
Is this the issue where the small hole gets blocked?
Cheers, Steve

Nothing could be easier, just lever them off. Use the lever under the shoe that has the cut-out on the thin washer that sort of retains the shoes. Not a big deal, if is levered off with the wrong shoe first, just tap it back flat again.KellyVB 75R90S wrote:Will be looking at that today as soon as I can remember how to get the brake shoes off
They go back on the same way.

Was just going to thank you Duane, I looked on your site and found the answer, like you said, (Takes 5 seconds)
Looks like the oil was coming from under the spline, I do remember overfilling at some time in the past and oil was coming out the top breather cap. There was no oil dripping out when I removed the wheel, Just noticed the shoes were oil soaked. I have cleaned everything up and also checked out the 2 weep holes like you show. Guess we will see when the new sketchers are installed...
