Points Cover Gasket
Took of the front cover to check alt brushes and the square gasket is shot. Has anyone used permatex in the grove where the gasket goes instead of replacing it? or is it really needed at all?
Re: Points Cover Gasket
It is needed, but the stock gasket is a PITA to install. I found a length of insulated copper wire that fit the gap perfectly, and installation was a snap!

INTERESTING!
I'M an alarm tech so I have LOTS of wire. I guess it seals ok. Was the wire stranded or solid?

Agreed Bamboo, I found that the OEM replacement seemed to have a chord width larger than the channel and had a bad replacement experience with my 1970 /5. I found that a specific o-ring and gasket silicone worked instead but I like your solution a lot.

It came off an old busted multi meter I had, so stranded.KellyVB 75R90S wrote:INTERESTING!

will be trying various sizes today, THANKS for the great tip my friend, D
Re: Points Cover Gasket
O-ring is the way to go. Install with black silicone sealant and you're done.
