Regulator / Rectifier wiring help

Post by Canyonjumper »

Howdy,
First time posting. I'm nearing the end of my m-unit install. I have removed the starter relay as it isn't needed with the m-unit. My question is related to the blue wire coming out of the rectifier to the starter relay. It shows on the attached diagram that it then goes to the charging indicator light. I am no longer using the charging indicator light, can I just terminate this wire and not hook it up to anything?
The red wire from the rectifier I now have going directly to the battery.

Thanks for your help

Welcome Canyon. The blue wires are not electrically connected to the starter relay. They simply connect to each other there, so you should be fine.

Edit: Oops, sorry. The above is the case for the /6. I just had a look at the wiring diagram for the /5 in the Haynes manual and it appears that the blue wires are connected to some sort of feedback loop (or something?) inside the starter relay.

If nobody here can help you I suggest you get on to the BM Bikes and Riders forum:

There is a very knowledgeable electrical/electronic expert there but I dunno if he has M-Unit experience. Another worthwhile option is ADV > Old's Cool > Airheads. Many inmates there have installed the Motogadget stuff on airheads. Good luck.
