Yeah, but it's the suddenness of the power that made them crazy. I thought the 400 was the worst, because it didn't feel like it had even 3 horsepower off the pipe, and when it did come on, it all came at once, and you of course had the throttle wide open, because there was no other way to even get it to move off the pipe.Zombie Master wrote:I had two H2's and an H1. What would be an interesting bike?

The Yamaha TDR250 had nothing till six grand, though you could operate and use it for transportation, at 6000rpm you had 45 rwhp on a 300 pd bike. The engine was from the TZR road race engine. And it had real brakes, and stability was remarkable.
I enjoyed my H2's and H1. Simple reliable and kicked all ass in their time. Just take it easy in the corners hold her open in the straights. I had my H1 in high school complete with expansion chambers and polished cases. I was so gone.

Re: What would be an interesting bike?
Never had a triple. Had two friends with 500's, one with a 750, one with a 400. Rode them all. Definitely convinced me what bike I wanted to own for my first bike: Z1 (1975 Z1-B).
Now THERE was a bike with a nice flat powerband: power everywhere. Didn't handle much better than the triples, but very nice in-between the curves.
Edit: fixed the second 500 that should have been 400)

We had a lot of fast 2-stroke bikes come to Canada in the '80's, they went on into the '90's, and you still see one once in a while.justoneoftheguys wrote:But not as bad as the Kawasaki H2 750 Mach IV, surely?dougie wrote: That bike was completely insane.
Most common was the Yamaha RZ350. There was even a race class called "RZ Cup" where the bikes had to be stock and the tyres were spec also. The RZ350 was the squid bike for street racers.
Then came the RZ500 (4 cyl.), Suzuki RG500 (4 cyl.), and the Honda NS400 (3 cyl.).
With the exception of the RZ500 these bikes handled well. Once they had been fitted with stingers and re-jetted they were quite something.
I've spent most of my money on women, motorcycles, and beer.
The rest of it I just wasted.

Dougie says: “From the '60's a Ducati 250/350 single? Maybe, but they are getting pricey.”
Look at the Benelli’s of the same era, especially sold under the Riverside brand at Montgomery Wards. The 350 Mojave, to my liking, has all the style of a Ducati at bargain basement prices, relatively speaking. .

Re: What would be an interesting bike?
Gets into the 70's, but I'd much prefer a V35 or V50 Guzzi to a Benelli, but that's just my tastes. Ducati Diane would be totally cool, but they tend to be either shot to hell, or god-awful expensive. Doesn't seem to be much in-between.moonbeamerll wrote:Dougie says: “From the '60's a Ducati 250/350 single? Maybe, but they are getting pricey.”

I've been fighting with myself over a RYCA CS-1 This fight is a preliminary, warm-up bout to the main event, the discussions with my wife. Pointing out that she has more than one pair of shoes is NOT a winning strategy in a new-bike argument, by the way. Go to rycamotors.com
