Famous last words. Years back, I had 2 rear flats on the same day one leaving a township and one at highway speed! Annoyed yes. MG mk2 so easy enough to remove the wheel. Easier than a R100 for sure.

When I bought my R65LS new, it had a flat before I made it to my mates place to gloat over the shiney new bike. Then a week later, a pointy burnt match stick went thru the centre grove...two in a week. Neither high speed though.

I've read it before that a decent size front mudflap can work to reduce the number of rear flats. No idea how that works in reality, but for the price and effort, I put one on. Any comments re: the front flap theory?

Where did you get the "no-name" inner tube from that you had mounted at the BMW dealer, Abstruse 1?

Well I've had one fitted for the last 5 years and I've not had a flat. Don't suppose that proves much though. They say that rear flats are more common because the front tire picks up the offending item ready for it to be rolled over and embedded in the rear. Perhaps they might bounce off to the side after hitting the mud flap.

If nothing else the mudflap keeps a lot of crap off the engine.

Now Brad, you know better than that. If you flip a coin and it comes up heads five times in a row, the odds for the next flip of the coin is still 50/50.

Same thing with flats (though the probability of success with a tube is way better than 50/50.

Of course, despite what I said above, you don't want to go around pissing off the Lone Ranger.
