No Nut!

Post by Chuey »

I can't figure out how to remove the drive shaft from the (small tube/solid shaft) swing arm. I have the Cycleworks tool and it says there is supposed to be a nut on the "cup" end of the shaft. There is no snap ring visible and I can't figure out how to get this suckah apart. Is this an unusual set-up?

Thanks for any help.

What bike? Maybe it goes out the other end. I've never bothered to remove the one from my R65 but on my friend's '93 R100 GSPD it pulls to the front right out of the final drive.

I have never seen that set-up. Probably well after my time. Most things today are.

The photograph actually looks like there IS an external snap ring visible.

I couldn't see it, but if there is a cush spring, and ramps in there, than you will have to compress the spring and pick out the snap ring.

It would help to know the year of the assembly.

Has Chuey shared some details with you privately?
The R65 had the cush drive, that is how I knew about it. But I am pretty sure Chuey doesn't have a R65.

Nah, just a wild guess, and the first drive shaft with no nut I could find on Max. What year did the R65 get cush drive?

I see a snap ring. The open part is between 10-12 O'clock. Just zoom in on the photo.
