Free pannier parts

Post by Chuey »

When I crashed my bike, I had my Krauser bags on. Both bags are damaged but there are some parts that are not damaged and that I would remove and send for cost of shipping.

The main part of each bag is OK. That is, except for the metal edging. I've seen quite a few bags that seem to have cracks and holes. Thing is, on both sides, the metal "lip" surround is bad and would need your good one to make a good bag. There would be at least one latch (no keys) and the pull up handle. I also have at least one good claw clasp that grips around the rack to hold the bag on - (as opposed to the seatbelt type latches). It looks like there is one good main (bottom) hinge. I haven't really sussed it out yet, but there may be some of the vinyl insert strips that are still good.

Both lids are toast. All the metal lips are bent.

I would love to see these parts married up with the good parts of another bag or two, so don't be shy. I will say that there will be a fair amount of work getting the metal lip off of the big part of the bag as it has quite a few pop rivets hidden behind the trim strips. Still, it would be totally doable.

When I crashed my R65 badly (the last time), both of my Touring bag covers were toast. I just threw away everything, not giving it a thought, but when I mentioned this to Bob, a lifelong airhead (and motorcycle in general) acquaintance here in Indy, he regretted not getting one of the bases from me, as he was wanting to use one to attach to a trumpet case. He is a brass musician and has his own repair business.

Not sure he would want to pay shipping for something so bulky from CA, but I can send him a text.

Hey Chuey, I just talked to my friend, and he is interested in one or both of the inside halves of the saddlebags. I assume they are still able to latch onto a loop securely?

He is going to modify one to carry a trumpet case.

I have known Bob ever since I bought my R65 in 1980. He worked parts and bike sales part time.
His regular gig is repairing brass & woodwind instruments.

He says he would be happy to pay shipping.

PM me your email address and I will put you guys in touch.

Oh, OK Rob. I just saw this tonight.

I'll be happy to send them to him. Tell him I play the trumpet as well.......probably not really as well, but also. :)

Chuey, I'll take the small hardware if the deal falls thru with Rob's mate.

The only hardware my guy would probably be interested in, is the claw on the rear (hopefully they are the claw type, and not the seat belt latch type).
