Weight Of 89 R100RT Transmission

Post by lskbike »

Can anyone advise me of a close approximate weight of the transmission from an 89 R100RT? I am getting ready to remove one and am trying to decide if I can do it myself, or do I need to arrange for help. (I'm kinda a loner….)

Thanks!

You can easily do it yourself.

It comes out the left side.

Put a few layers of painting tape on the frame to keep it from getting scratched.

Mind your neutral switch wires!

Do you know to drop the swing arm?

Middle of this page by Snowbum:

He says about 24 pounds without oil. It should be easy enough to do by yourself. Helps to have the battery out and the swingarm unpinned and pulled back. Just protect the frame with tape, cardboard, etc. and position your body so that you can pull it out and set it down.

you'll need somebody to hold your beer/coffee and make remarks while you work

Make sure the pushrod is pulled partially out to clear the clutch components.

Yeah, I am a weenie, and I can easily handle removing a gearbox from an airhead by myself.

Just DON'T forget the drain plug when you put it back together...

Doesn't matter if there's no plug, although a keen eye on the floor will tell you there's no drain plug.
