/5 Sidestand

Post by daz »

I checked Duane's site first! I removed the two into one exhaust on my '71. After installing the proper exhaust system my side stand would not retract all the way because someone welded additional round stock to the inside curve of the OEM stand. I ground the welds off and removed the stock. I'd like to remove, replace and or repair the side stand. It appears someone also welded the top of the pivot pin of the stand. Was that pivot supposed to screw out or is it a part of the entire assembly? Which is welded to the frame. Either a picture or explanation is what I'm looking for.

The weld on the top of the pin is correct. To remove the sidestand you must remove the nut on the left end of the front engine mount stud and move that stud far enough to the right to allow the bracket that holds the springs to be removed. Then the sidestand can be slid down off the pin.
